Boundary Bend is pleasantly situated on a large curve in the river and right on the Murray Valley Highway.
Major Mitchell crossed the Murray here on his journey of discovery when he named Swan Hill.

It was here in early 1830 that Captain Sturt was swept from the narrow winding Murrumbidgee into 'a broad and noble river' - the Murray.
Later, the paddle steamers pushed up the Murrumbidgee as far as Gundagai, 1235 kilometres above this junction.
1252.0 Start of snaggy section.
The next 10 kilometres ( 1252 to 1262 ) is a difficult section in low water being quite snaggy and shallow. There are many snags in this section especially on the points and in the bights.
1285.2 Wakool Junction on the NSW side.
Upstream of this junction, the Murray becomes narrow and winding and tends to have clay bars in the bights.
The succession of sharp bends with swift currents between here and Tooleybuc were known as Coghills Bends by the paddle steamer skippers.
